Getting to Know Big Jan Boser: "I've been big ever since I was little."
Big Jan Boser is big. He’s been big ever since he was little. If you ask him how big, he’ll say, “6’5” and a hot dog over three bills.” Jan is an ever present voice on the IHSAA Champions Network adding color to football, basketball and softball broadcasts. “Jan is our version of John Madden,” said Rick Vanderwielen, founder of IHSAAtv.org. “He’s excitable. He treats every contest like it’s a State Championship Game.”
During one basketball broadcast between Hamilton Southeastern and North Central, future NBA star Gary Harris hits a three pointer to win a sectional championship game. Veteran play-by-play announcer Greg Rakestraw knew how to set the table for Jan’s enthusiasm and simply said upon Gary’s release, “For the win…” and Jan took it from there.
“Oh, ah, wow, I can’t believe what I just saw! They’re going crazy in Fishers baby!” In typically Jan Boser style, he used the fullest volume possible from his baritone voice to overload the audio mixer in the production truck.
This highlight was the ESPN play of the day and remained as ESPN’s ‘Best of the Best’ for over a month! One ESPN commentator said, “That announcer’s excitement is off the charts!”
Jan is a Noblesville resident whose day job has been telecommunications administration. He played football and basketball in high school then college football at Anderson University.
Jan has been announcing for 25 years on outlets such as HomeTown Sports Indiana, Webstream Productions, 1070 The Fan and HomeTown Sports and News.
