Getting to Know Greg Rakestraw: "I can't believe you want to waste that mind and your talents being a play-by-play sports announcer."

Greg 'Rake' Rakestraw has been on the air for over 20 years.

Greg's chemistry teacher just shook his head. "I can't believe you want to waste that mind and your talents being a play-by-play sports announcer."

How often does the Valedictorian of his high school class chose this career path?

We're the beneficiaries of "Rake's" decision. He brings his intellect and a photographic memory to each IHSAA Champions Network broadcast.

Greg calls our volleyball, soccer, football, basketball, softball and baseball championships on Fox Sports Midwest and IHSAAtv.org. Lately, he's hosted our popular tournament pairings shows.

Greg Rakestraw has been part of the Indianapolis and statewide sports media scene for over 20 years. He began his days on the Indy radio airwaves while a student at the University of Indianapolis, where he received his degree in 1998.

He's made stops at WPZZ, ESPN 950, HomeTown Sports Indiana, 1070-The-Fan and now serves as Vice President of the ISC Network. While stepping back into television once again, Greg will remain as part on the on-air family at the Fan, hosting Soccer Saturday each week, broadcasting state championship events on the radio, and assisting in coverage of the Month of May from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

As of this summer, Greg has been on the call of over 160 state championship events during his career. He also serves as the television voice of the Indy Eleven, IUPUI Basketball, and the post-game show host on the Colts Radio Network.

Greg played basketball, baseball and tennis at Lanesville High School and continued playing tennis while a student at UIndy.

He's is a native of Lanesville, Indiana, but has called Indianapolis home for nearly 25 years. He and his wife Amy have two children, Jack and Mia, and reside in the Broad Ripple area.
